Take It With ‘Ya
Hello, my name is Matt Tuley. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am the front man for the band Matt Tuley & the 3-4-5. We all live and reside in Los Angeles, California and we love it here.
I dream of a life where my music takes me to exciting places. There’s nothing like making and playing music with others around you who experience the same emotions you’re singing about. Music is the great equalizer and it is best when shared. We wouldn’t be anywhere in this world without music.
While Los Angeles is everything it has claimed to be (and more), I have reached some road blocks. Of course, that’s bound to happen in the pursuit of a dream but it tends to require you to find a way around if you can’t find a way through. I had always hoped that the music would take me somewhere but I began to wonder if I had it backwards. Maybe just maybe I should take the music with me.
So that’s what this is. I’m going to play around the country with just me and a guitar.
Is this a novel idea? Not entirely. Young man travels America with a few bucks and a dream? Never heard that one before!
Don’t worry, the goal is still the band. Like I said, nothing beats playing with the band. And I foresee being able to play back in Los Angeles with them throughout it all and show everyone in every other corner of the country what I’m talking about here in California.
But this adventure is an attempt to get back to the grass roots of how I got involved in it all to begin with. I came of age as a musician in a tight knit community and I want to shine a light on those communities that form in pockets of the U.S.. Spreading my own little message or whatever strangers find in the words I’m singing and the notes I’m playing. See all of the friends I have dearly missed who have supported me up to this point and maybe make some new ones along the way. Visit new places, experience life through a different lens. Make some memories and write some stories. Hell, I think I could get some songs out of this.
Whatever I find, I know it’ll be something I can take with me.
